UNSTOPPABLE!!

I listened to a message that burned in my heart and inspired this post two weeks ago, but the writing hiatus I undertook in the month of October precluded its transcription until now.

Terri Savelle Foy, in her October 2023 Icing Women’s conference, shared a powerful message on the concept of being unstoppable, i.e., refusing to let the devil or negative situations dictate your future or circumstances by facing him squarely and calling his bluff (my transliteration of her message). Her second guest speaker, Cynthia Brazelton, took it further by admonishing the audience to live, think, believe, pray, speak, love, dream, praise and give BIG, summarizing it all with the phrase Do it big and make it count!” While the conference was directed at a female audience, the message is universal; I strongly encourage every reader to watch (or listen to) it (see link below), given the ubiquitous applicability of God’s Word and the inspirational punch the message packed.

I noted that some other YouTubers began to preach on the topic that same week after Terri’s conference was transmitted. I couldn’t blame them; I was so fired up that that I sent the link to anyone I felt would genuinely connect and benefit from it.

CUTE CLICHÉ OR DARING DISPOSITION?

While truly inspirational and commendable, I began to wonder, what makes a person truly unstoppable? Beyond being an inspirational slogan, a gingering thought, or a feel-good message with little practical application, how does one live out genuine unstoppability? Is it conferred by merely confessing unstoppable scriptures, quoting unstoppable mantras, or otherwise audaciously declaring one’s unstoppability? Is it brought about by a brash and bold demeanor, an arrogant strut, or by donning brazen, revealing clothing that leave nothing to the imagination? Is a person’s unstoppability determined by their self-confidence or awareness, great eloquence, erudition or pedagogic distinction? Is it determined by their fame, fortune, spirituality, success or other highly desirable attribute?

Terri and her team did a phenomenal job of sharing practical steps to attaining this precious attribute, but to ensure it all translates into a tangible trait in your life and mine, I would like to take you behind the scenes to share what I believe is the secret that makes a person truly unstoppable.

THERE IS A SPIRIT IN MAN …..

Job 32:8 hints at a truth every lover of Jesus should be privy to: humans are tripartite beings; spirits created as duplicates of God housed in human (physical) bodies containing a soul (mind, will and emotions; the seat of intellect and interaction with the physical world). This means every person you see is an eternal being like God (spirit), temporarily living in a mobile home (body), whose primary mode of interpretation and interaction with his world are his senses (housed in his soul). The factor that distinguishes one person from another is the quality of their mindsets (souls), sourced from what they have imbibed (or not) through their physical senses and their spirits (the latter being their primary mode of reception and communication with God their Progenitor and Source).

We see this demonstrated in Caleb, a man with “a different spirit” which enabled him to follow God fully and resulted in great commendation and honor, alongside an exclusive Promise Land inheritance with a Permanent Residence status. No one else in his generation received such a privilege except Joshua, who exhibited the same spirit (Numbers 14:24 & 30; Deuteronomy 1:36; Joshua 14:8-9). The term denotes a person so in line and in tune with God that they begin to think, talk, act and duplicate Him in every way, becoming a beautiful reflection of His person and glory (Romans 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 3:18; James 1:21-25). Very specifically and beyond the fruit of the Spirit and other character traits, this person has mastered the art of listening for and studying God’s Word, imbibing and allowing it to saturate and transform their thinking processes, taking Him seriously at each Word encounter (see the Psalms 119, especially verses 1 to 11 and 128). They are not religious adherents merely skilled at quoting scriptures while their lives fail to demonstrate the scriptures and God they quote so freely; they are people who genuinely live out and walk the walk, and not just talk the (piety) talk.

WHO DOES THAT??

Caleb, Joshua and David are examples of people who demonstrated this concept of fully following God, not by their religious observances, words or clichés, but by demonstrating this “different spirit” (mindset) they had developed in their personal pursuits of God. Beyond the verses previously shared, we see an eighty-five year old Caleb boldly asking for his promised inheritance forty years after it was initially promised. The average person would have long given up any hopes of receiving it, either by self-deprecation and disqualification due to age, or from the painful forty year wait for which he bore no fault (Joshua 14:6-15). We see Joshua, God’s faithful General who dauntlessly walks up to none other than the formidable, action-ready Commander of Heaven’s Armies to ask if he was for or against Israel. Who sees an Angel (who by all biblical accounts are gargantuan, fearsome beings often evoking great terror and awe) and casually strolls up to them to ask that kind of challenging question? Then there’s David, the gallant but untrained sixteen year old, who habitually chased and killed the lions and bears that attempted to steal or devour any of his father’s sheep. Again – which typical person does that, and a sixteen year old lowly and obscure boy at that??

These and other biblical examples have one thing in common – they each acquired a temeritous, indomitable, unstoppable spirit in their private encounters with God. They went beyond nice religious narratives to practice and truly imbibe God’s mindset and character traits, and it manifested in their lives (see Daniel 11;32; Micah 5:7-9; etc.). Please refer to our January & February 2022 articles, The Unstoppables, The Unshakables, The Unbreakables, and The Untouchables, all of which delve deeper into the workings of the audacity and temerity behind this concept.

THE HEART OF THE MATTER – THE HEART MATTERS!

Coined from another prior article, this subtopic/statement could not be more accurate – you become unstoppable by the quality of the heart and resultant mindset you cultivate through spending quality time alone with God. When you do, you access, absorb, illuminate and dissipate His very nature, character and qualities, particularly as it relates to becoming a truly unstoppable person. In other words, it all starts in the heart, translates to the mind and reflects in your outer circumstances – all by developing intimacy with God and a heart that refuses to cower to mere religious practices and clichés. This unstoppable heart passionately pursues Him by completely embracing all that He says, does, promises and proffers (Psalms 119:128). Just as a natural heart pumps all the required nutrients around the body to keep it functional, energized and accomplishing its purpose, so does a spiritual heart for optimal life functioning. Just as a natural heart has the potential to fail under certain circumstances, resulting in heart failure and other dire consequences, a spiritual heart can also stop and cause destiny failure given similarly untoward conditions. Human life is only sustainable and meaningful if the heart remains unstoppable through adequate connectivity, nutrition, and functionality.

Friend, you are unstoppable only to the extent that you cultivate an unstoppable spirit from God, regardless of your spiritual affirmations or denominational projections. Take it a step further today. Move from quoting cute clichés to experiencing a genuinely paradigmatic shift of heart and mind, becoming the truly unstoppable force you were created to be!
