“Yes, we will follow your ways, Lord Yahweh, and entwine our hearts with Yours, for the fame of Your name is all that we desire.
At night I yearn for you with all my heart; in the morning my spirit reaches out to You …“ (Isaiah 26:8-9)
It would be remiss to allow February to come to a close without acknowledging its most noteworthy association. The widespread enamoredness and exhilaration of love naturally set the stage for hearts pulsating with passion and pleasure as they contemplate and relate with the objects of their affection. Adrenaline rushes often promote symptoms such as throbbing hearts, adoring stares, daydreaming, sweaty palms, and the physical delights that characterize romantic encounters. At the same time, tender looks, gentle touch, deep-seated conversations, and mutual understanding and transparency add depth and intimacy to cherished relationships of any kind.
Everyone is created and craves true love in mutually fulfilling relationships. We often overlook the fact that God requires an even greater depth of love, intimacy, and commitment from us1 than we require from others. Unlike us though, He does not need our love to function, for He is the very essence, epitome, source, and definition of love,2 and is wholly independent and unreliant on anyone else for it, being the one and only Self-existent, Self-sufficient God.3 He requires our unquestionable love and commitment because intimacy, camaraderie, and shared rulership were the purpose for which He created us.4
Friends, you and I were created to function with hearts that beat and pulsate for God,5 above and alongside of all our other relationships. Just as your heart is central to living and controls the flow of vital nutrients to other organs of your body, so a heart pulsating for God sustains every other aspect of life, even when other areas are under attack or seemingly shut down. This has nothing to do with being religious, church-going, adhering to a set of dogma or sanctimonious principles, or serving as a leader in a religious organization. It is about receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior, having a heart constantly ablaze with love for Him, and living a life that honors, centralizes, and promotes Him above all.
With passion I pursue and cling to You. … I feel Your grip on my life, I keep my soul close to You. (Psalm 63:8)
May your heart pulsate with a driving, God-centered passion, pleasure, and purpose that defines, refines, and ensigns your life with divine distinction and glory!
