This the day the Lord has made … (Psalm 118:24)
In a recent conversation with God, I found myself expressing deep appreciation and telling Him He had made my day. The dual implication of this struck me almost immediately. Thanking Him is pretty commonplace for me, but my use of the latter wasn’t something I remember ever doing before, at least not in that context. When someone makes your day, they’ve warmed your heart and made you happy by something they’ve said, done, or accomplished that directly or indirectly impacted you. In this instance, God’s graciousness affected me directly and personally; I was so overwhelmed by it.
Everyone who lives long enough to develop sound reasoning abilities comes to understand that waking up to another twenty-four hours of the Earth’s axial rotation is not a given. An average of a hundred and fifty to a hundred and seventy thousand people across the globe die daily, underscoring the unpredictable and ephemeral nature of life and that, on an individual basis, no next day is guaranteed. Geophysically speaking, the laws of nature do assure each new day … until the world as we know it comes to an end and the Creator moves the universe along in the next phase of His eternal plan. That God made, programmed, and automated every day1 (even before it physically arrives) is mind-boggling to me. The Psalmist said it best when he uttered our theme Scripture and echoed supporting thoughts in other verses.2

Friend, as simplistic as this may seem, every day is a gift from God, loaded with a plethora of benefits and blessings!3 Recognize and relish each day for what it is, and revel in His wonderful benevolence and plan for you. Live it up FOR Him, TO Him, and THROUGH Him – it’s the only way to show Him the gratitude He deserves.
So go ahead … make my day!
