God’s solution to Israel’s conundrum of being completely trapped by an obstructing body of water ahead, surrounding mountains on either side, and pursuing enemies from behind was interesting – “Go Forward!“ It was not a suggestion, piece of advice, or word of comfort or assuasion. It was a stern and compelling command – “Go forward!“
Sometimes, the very places of previous liberties, prosperity, and conquest become our very confines of limitation and stagnation. We may subliminally recognize that there is more to be experienced, achieved, and vanquished; indeed, more territory to take, oceans to cross, and heights to achieve, but can find ourselves unwittingly paralyzed and motionless at the brink of massive life-defining moments. Many become stuck in the oblivious rut of a comfort zone, familiar place, or danger spot, unable to proceed or gain ground because of the perceived obstacles ahead or terrorizing fears behind.
The precarious position of standing before an unyielding and negatively immersive obstacle with the threat of obliteration by relentless enemies and no apparent recourse must have been terrifying to ancient Israel, to say the least. One would have thought that God, ever flowing in graciousness and compassion, would speak words of comfort and reassurance and then cause them to disappear and reappear at a safer location post haste, as seen in sci-fi movies, or that He would wave His magic wand and make the looming obstacle and relentless foes disappear as though they had never been there.
What we often fail to understand is that God is not a magician; He is the supreme ruler of the universe. He does not pretend that challenges are nonexistent; He simply circumvents them. It was in His power to make the Red Sea disappear; indeed, His autobiography reveals that He makes enemies and obstacles nonexistent.1 But He does so not by shouting “Abracadabra!” and waving a wand, but by obliterating them in a way that showcases their prior existence AND complete annihilation/eradication. This is what distinguishes the God of the Bible as the Supreme Power from Whom all adulterated and falsified forms are sourced; He makes obstacles and enemies irrelevant and inconsequential by squelching them as though they never existed, having upturned the laws of nature that made them seem insurmountable.2 Before that event, no one could have dreamed that He would suspend the laws of physics to create a path of escape for His people!3 After they crossed over, He reinstate those same laws so their enemies would be naturally obliterated. Talk about a mighty God and a brilliant strategist!🙌🏽
Friend, are you standing at the precipice of a paradigmatic moment that could either thrust you eons of years forward in destiny attainment or keep you bound on every side by the comforts of the familiar or the threats of the past? Could it be that the God-ordained answer to your current quagmire is to advance despite the seemingly insurmountable obstacles you face? As you advance in obedience to divine directives, every sea of impossibility before you will supernaturally split to reveal the hidden path you are to embark upon by faith, even as it drowns your enclosing enemies.
